PLHv3: What You Need To Know

What is the difference between lumens and candela?

Lumens measure the total amount of light emitted. Candela measures how bright the center of the beam is, which helps you see far away. The PLHv3 gives you 1,500 lumens to fill a room and 60,000 candela to see far down a street. This gives you the perfect balance for both close and far distances. 

Do I need to buy a whole new setup if I have an older model?

No, you do not. The PLHv3 is a "head-only upgrade". This means the top part with the light screws right onto your older Modlite or Surefire Scout bodies. This saves you money because you do not have to buy new mounts or switches.

Can I use regular batteries in my light?

It depends on the size of your light body. If you have the large 18650 body, you can use two small CR123 batteries in an emergency. But you must never use a single CR123 battery in the smaller 18350 body. It is very dangerous and could cause a fire.

Is the light always super bright?

The rifle lights are designed to remain fully bright at all times. But if you buy the handheld multi-mode version, it has a special "Admin Mode". This mode drops the brightness down to 15 percent. It is great for reading maps or looking for things up close without hurting your eyes in the dark. 

Will the light break when my gun shakes?

No, it is built to be very tough. The internal electronic components are protected with a hard glue called potting. This keeps the delicate wires safe when the gun kicks back. It is tested to handle the heavy recoil of big rifles. 

What is the GASCAP and USB-C plug for?

Older switches can slow down the power going to the light, making it dimmer. The new GASCAP uses a USB-C plug, just like modern phones. This plug can handle a lot of power, so your light stays as bright as possible. The plug can also be put in backward or forward so the wire stays neat.
